ICD-10 for Revenue Cycle and HIM Professionals
Kforce Healthcare Solutions’ comprehensive assessment can examine the ICD-10 readiness of all functional areas and identify each work stream that may be impacted by the conversion from ICD-9 to ICD-10 coding, including finance, technology and health information management operations. Kforce can also develop an ICD-10 awareness campaign that can assist in gaining user acceptance across your organization.
The conversion from ICD-9 to ICD-10 will require employee training on new processes and IT systems. We base our customized training on an established organizational change management plan by assessing all employees impacted, including those in billing, human resources, trauma registry and clinics, who may often be overlooked. We provide a coder competency test administered by our AHIMA certified ICD-10 trainers, as well as evaluate the quality of physician clinical documentation practices.
We recommend facilities begin parallel coding, coding records in both ICD-9 and ICD-10, at least six months prior to the conversion date for at least 50 percent of all top DRGs and Outpatient Procedures. This will help create a financial model and identify gaps in documentation and/or coding to help reduce DNFB (discharged not final billed) that could result in lost revenue, reimbursement or reduced quality.
