Description: Our client is seeking a SAS Programmer in New York City, NY. This is a contract position. The Epidemiology Department is seeking a full-time experienced SAS SQL programmer contractor to support, conduct, and QC sophisticated database analyses supporting epidemiology studies, as well as to implement data models and write code to populate and QC data models with data from other databases. The analyses will initially focus on The Health Information Network (THIN), an UK electronic medical record database, but will also cover other databases as needed. The position will be located in New York City, US.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provide programming support to mapping data from a large third party database into a common data module
- Provide programming support to epidemiology projects and analyses
- Provide statistical support to epidemiology projects and analyses
- Apply epidemiologic and statistical methods to address safety and benefit/risk issues
- Perform analysis of observational data to support publication and exploratory analyses
- Support ad-hoc requests from within the Epidemiology department
- Perform programming and analysis activities for multiple projects and exploratory analysis
- Work independently on multiple projects prioritizing according to departmental needs
- Assist with analysis planning including development and review of results and analysis dataset requirements
- Develop and document programs and produce tables, reports and analysis results summaries
- Manage epidemiology databases and programming activities to increase study analysis efficiency
- Be involved in the creation of statistical models to optimize database study activities
- Perform and document quality control checks for programs
- Assist in testing and implementation of new statistical software

Requirements: Required professional background and experience:
- Exceptionally strong SAS SQL programming skills, with proficiency in SAS/Base, SAS/Stat and SAS Macros. Basic understanding of SAS/Graph
- Batchelor's degree in IT or biostatistics
- Expertise in SAS/SQL programming including statistical analysis procedures
- 5+ years of providing SAS/SQL programming support in the pharmaceutical industry, academia, and/or regulatory agencies
- Experience in database creation, data mapping, data analyses, and quality assurance and documentation is required
- Strong organizational, written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Understanding of structure, characteristics, and issues of databases and ability of conducting sophisticated analysis using those databases
- Strong analytical, organizational and written/verbal communication skills
- Strong databases management skills
Other desirable skills:
- Master's degree in IT or biostatistics
- Expertise in data mining while not absolutely essential, would be a major plus
- Experience with other statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS or Stata)
- Experience using claims / health care data and/or public and private epidemiologic resources
- Experience with medical terminology and understanding of epidemiology research
- Experience with Oracle
- In-depth expertise and training in statistical analysis including complex statistical techniques, tools, and procedures
- Some knowledge of retrospective epidemiology data and its application for epidemiology research
