Description:  Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer. This person will have overall responsibility and provide technical leadership for the mechanical system architecture for a number of existing and new products and subsystems. The successful candidate will leverage his system level expertise, grasp of cutting edge technologies and experience in the design of complex electromechanical products. He/she will lead the development of technologically sophisticated and innovative new products for the military and industrial markets. Responsibilities:
  • Lead the architectural definition and overall mechanical systems design for new and existing products
  • Assume project level responsibility including requirements and design definition, trade-off analysis, risk assessment, and technical leadership
  • Be responsible for the execution of the mechanical engineering content as defined in the program plans
  • Determine technical and cost feasibility
  • Act as advisor to program management and customers in the planning and execution of present and future projects
  • Prepare and present mechanical engineering sections of proposals and cost estimates
  • Conduct technical risk assessment by identifying and evaluating major system and subsystem cost drivers and cost impact of alternatives
  • Establish cost of key performance requirements and determine cost / performance trade-offs
  • In cooperation with program management, analyze strategic opportunities including new business, technology advancements, and cost / parts reduction for current and proposed programs
  • Align mechanical engineering choices and alternatives with the division technology roadmap and provide input into the roadmap
  • Work closely with the overall Engineering Team and other competencies to modify existing designs, create new designs, and produce the documentation necessary to assure their quality manufacture
  • Participate in all phases of projects including requirements definition and prototyping
Requirements:  Skills/Technical Requirements:
  • Relevant UGV design experience
  • Design knowledge using plastic and metal materials
  • Experience with low volume production processes
  • Knowledge of FMEA, DFM/A, and Six Sigma (a plus)
  • CAD proficiency (minimum 8 years of experience)
  • PRO Engineer (preferred)
  • Ability to give direction to engineers, technicians, interns, designers, and drafters
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14 drafting standards and machine shop / manufacturing processes
  • Previous experience with motion control systems, sensors, actuators, and robotic mechanisms
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead small teams to accomplish aggressive goals
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and prioritization skills
