Description: Our client is a major financial services company with an Insurance Division that is located in Massachusetts. The successful incumbent will provide strong accountancy skills and leadership within the unit and possess the communication, interpersonal, and technical strengths to resolve problems in data quality and control in a timely manner.
Job Responsibilities:
- Drive development of financial controls and balance sheet verification
- Ability to work both independently and within a group environment
- Deliver financial statements that are complete, accurate and substantiated with underlying detail support
- Leverage accountancy knowledge to help resolve identified discrepancies
- Identify weaknesses in internal controls and make recommendations for improvements in processing methods, work flows, procedures, and reporting efficiencies
- Ability to read, interpret, apply and explain latest pronouncements that could impact the Company financial statements and footnote disclosures
- Participate in change implementation with data obtained from related entities
- Meet (in person and via phone) regularly with external partners and other team members to monitor work performance; discuss issues with accounting data and/or process methods, and drive forward corrections and/or improvements
- Partner with the Company and divisional Controller's to provide timely and accurate financial information along with building and maintaining appropriate process controls
- Complete Monthly assigned balance sheet and/or transactional reconciliations
- Participate with Controller's department on tool design and development; drive process improvements over normal production processes

Requirements: Position Qualifications (Required Experience and Skills):
- CPA highly preferred with 5+ years of financial reporting and accounting experience
- Insurance and/or financial services experience is desirable
- Possess strong GAAP and/or Statutory accounting and financial reporting background
- Demonstrate ability to conceptualize accounting concepts to develop appropriate solutions for integration of new businesses and/or products
- Possess strong problem solving skills and a willingness to develop solutions independently and/or in groups with cross-functional partners
- Must have the ability to thrive in a developing environment and a flat organizational structure
- Self directed, motivated, able to lead and follow as skills and expertise warranted by this project
- Knowledge of insurance or re-insurance accounting is desirable
- Demonstrated accounting and financial controls exposure
- System conversion and testing experience is a strong plus
- Strong Excel and database skills
