Description:  Our client is looking for a Mainframe Systems Engineer with experience developing a long term implementation plan of the technology roadmap for zOS platforms. Below is a listed of additional skills required. Please note that the job description will hit on a number of different skills, but the primary skills for this opportunity include the installation of a z/OS1.6 or later, JCL, JES2, or JES3; it's a plus if the candidate has experience with SDSF. The company's goal of this effort is to simplify their zOS environments by developing actionable plans to execute their go forward strategy, promote standardization and simplification. The candidate would bring leading industry best practices and have professional verbal and written communication skills. This person will be assigned to the mainframe zOS Infrastructure team and or projects.
Requirements:  In addition to the skills mentioned above, requirements include:
  • Actual installation experience and support of a zOS 1.6 or later operating system and at least 1 complete evolution upgrade (zOS 1.9 to 1.10)
  • Assembler coding experience in coding applications or systems programs / user exits
  • ISPF / TSO - high proficiency and ability to customize at systems level
  • High JCL skills
  • SMPE 1 to 2 years experience with IBM and 3rd party software
  • JES2 and/or JES3 experience plus SDSF abilities
  • High experience level in IPCS, dump debugging or IBM Fault analyzer, and problem determination
  • Strong current zOS internals and general zOS analytical
  • High experience and proficiency with online monitors tools (BMC Mainview, Omegamon, BEST1, or equivalent)
  • Interface some first level internal knowledge of DB2, CICS, MQ, IMS, TCP/IP, and/or ACP
  • VTAM / SNA experience
  • IBM HMC / SE skills on a z hardware platform
  • Ability to open, manage, solve and close problems with IBM and other vendor support centers
  • Lead role in various medium level Systems Programming projects and initiatives
  • WLM knowledge
  • GRS and or MIM skills
  • Proficiency in REXX, CLIST and SAS
  • Written programs or class work
  • Installation and support of or schedulers CA7, ESP, ZEKE; tape management (ZARA, CA1, RMM), and restart managers (ZEKE, CA11)
  • VSAM, PDS, PDS/e and other file structure internal knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability leading junior engineers in projects at the technical level
  • z/OS UNIX skills
  • BROCADE, MCDATA FICON Director knowledge
  • Print; physical print and electronic archive experience; i.e., printer hardware interfacing along with software (AFP, PDF, line mode, etc.)
  • IBM mainframe hardware and externals (DISK, TAPE, Directors) and ability to understand z hardware
  • Disaster recovery experience and knowledge
  • VM skills
  • Application coding years in COBOL or ASSEMBLER in mainframe shop
  • Designed in-house solutions in lieu of vendor packages
